What the talk is about

In most companies, strategy is written as a plan. It describes an ideal future, draws a straight line back to the present and splits it into targets. Then on day two something happens that nobody planned for. JP Castlin is a strategist and also a trained lawyer. Speaking from Stockholm, he explains why strategy keeps pretending this won't happen, and where the belief comes from that with enough data the future can be calculated.

You'll learn how Laplace's demon from 1814 made its way through equilibrium economics into strategic planning, and why an ordinary screwdriver proves the future can't be predicted. JP describes markets as complex adaptive systems and explains why buyer personas and the five whys stop working there. He also offers a different approach to strategy: coherence between two boundaries, and measuring tempo and direction instead of fixed goals.
