The Doomsday Upon Us

What the talk is about

Marketers spent years learning to work with data, and now they hold tools that can not only influence people but manipulate them. Stéphane Hamel has worked with data for 35 years, got online in 1987, before the web, and lives near Montreal. In this talk he explains why Cambridge Analytica, machine learning and deepfake videos worry him more and more, and what responsibility that puts on marketers.

You'll learn why half of a room full of marketers uses an ad blocker while only about a quarter of the general population does, how training data turned the Norman AI into a "psychopath" and the Tay chatbot into a racist within 16 hours, what happens when deepfake video, generated text and microtargeting are combined, and which ten principles the Montreal Declaration for Responsible AI offers.
