What the talk is about
Search engines aren't going away, Gillian Muessig says, but they are no longer the only way people reach websites and brands. Gillian co-founded Moz, has family roots in the Czech lands, and Marketing Festival 2013 was her first visit to the country. In this 20-minute talk she looks at where marketing goes beyond search.
You'll learn how fast data collection on web pages grew in 2012, how a Seattle jeans store tied its shop floor to an app, and why the salesperson is left with little more than fetching the product and taking payment. Gillian explains why a real community only starts when fans talk to each other, and why shared experience holds people together more than anything else. She illustrates it with the story of Nicholas Winton and with BrettApproved, a website for travellers in wheelchairs.
